Narayani Bridge

The Narayani Bridge, located on the Mahendra Highway (Mahendra Rajmarga) above the Narayani River, connects the Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province. It serves as a crucial link between the eastern and western parts of Nepal.

Stretching approximately 420 meters in length, the bridge was constructed in the early 1980s and has played a significant role in the development of Gaindakot, Narayangarh, and the entire country.

Before the bridge’s construction, people had to rely on rafts and a combination of multiple boats to cross the river. This process was particularly challenging and risky during the monsoon season, when the Narayani River swelled, resulting in higher water levels and stronger currents. The situation led to many inconveniences and accidents. The completion of the bridge alleviated these difficulties and greatly improved the lives of local people.

In addition to its vital role in the development of Gaindakot and Narayangarh, the bridge serves as a key transportation hub linking the east, west, north, and south of Nepal. It is regarded as much stronger than some more recently constructed bridges, having withstood heavy loads and powerful floods over the years.

However, the bridge appears to lack proper maintenance, which is contrary to recommendations for biannual inspections and upkeep of such infrastructure. To prevent potential accidents and safeguard lives, it is essential for authorities to ensure the bridge and other public infrastructure are regularly maintained to meet safety standards.
